Only about one-fifth of restaurants and retailers can profitably incorporate daily deal coupons into their marketing plans long-term, says a new study. My question: Will more small biz sour on Groupon, et al?
I was shocked when Groupon was poised to go IPO at well over a billion. What?!?! What about online things makes people see gold bricks--it's as if no one remembers the lowly Entertainment Books.
But then again, I'm someone who didn't understand Amazon or Ebay, at first.
The big irony is that Google wanted to buy Groupon for $6 billion two years ago, and Groupon turned them down in favor of an IPO. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-30/google-said-to-near-agreement-to-buy-groupon-for-6-billion.html
